The first Deaconess Board was appointed under Bishop Ellis in 1964. The position of Deaconess is scriptural. (Romans 16:1) It is a highly sacred spiritual position, a commitment, and a chosen position approved by the pastor. The Deaconess assists in preparing the candidates for baptism and preparing the Communion Table for the serving of the Lord's Supper. Their mission is (Mt. 28:19-20) "go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." They continue to emulate their Christ-likeness by letting their light so shine through their works, conversation and service to the Lord.
